Duisburg asserts itself as an investment location

Despite challenging economic conditions, Duisburg remains a robust and sought-after real estate location. The latest real estate market report 2024 from Duisburg Business & Innovation (DBI) shows a positive trend in the logistics and residential real estate sectors as well as in the investment market.

"The figures prove it: Duisburg is holding its own as a real estate market with growth potential, with the logistics sector and the investment market in particular continuing to attract investment," explains Rasmus C. Beck, Managing Director of Duisburg Business & Innovation.

Migrant companies as a growth engine for Duisburg

The city of Duisburg is home to people from 163 nations. Migrant businesses play a key role in Duisburg's economic development. A recent study by the Institute for Work and Technology (IAT) on behalf of the City of Duisburg is the first to take a comprehensive look at the migrant economy and shows the contribution these companies make to the local economy. It was presented by Duisburg Business & Innovation (DBI) and the Turkish-German Entrepreneurs and Academics Association (TIAD) at the "Wirtschaft gemeinsam" event, supplemented by a trade fair with best-practice examples from the catering, textiles and crafts sectors. Duisburg's partner city Gaziantep, UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy, also presented itself.

Illumination completes the landmark

A sign of hope and orientation in uncertain times: Duisburg gets this with the shining spire on the Salvatorkirche. Thanks to state-of-the-art LED spotlights, Duisburg's oldest building, whose spire was destroyed in the Second World War, is now once again illuminated with subtle light.

The spotlights are switched on one hour after sunset and remain lit until around midnight. During the Christmas period and in January, they even shine until 1 a.m. The Sparkasse Duisburg bank, in cooperation with DBI, the City of Duisburg and the Protestant parish, played a key role in the illuminated project.

New "Bildung jetzt DU" advice center opened

Vocational training is one of the most important components in combating the shortage of skilled workers. This is why numerous partners have now joined forces and created the "Bildung jetzt DU" advice center. On the premises of the BIZ careers information center of the employment agency in Duisburg and on a new website, companies and people in employment as well as jobseekers will in future be able to find information on a wide range of further training opportunities and then register for the relevant courses, workshops, retraining etc. with the respective further training provider. The physical consultation on site and the website bildungjetztdu.de will be supplemented by joint program and event offers from the players as well as a joint brand presence.

Duisburg as a business location: BVS Cranes as an example of the attractiveness of international investments

Beck, Managing Director of Duisburger Wirtschaftsentwicklung Duisburg Business & Innovation (DBI), he discussed current challenges, prospects and the company's growth potential with Önder Bülbüloglu, Chairman of the Board of BVS Holding and CEO of BVS Crane Technologies GmbH Duisburg.
